About the Author

LEWIS C. LIN is CEO of Impact Interview, an interview coaching firm. Lewis was named by CNN as one of the "top 10 job tweeters you should be following." He has also been featured on FOX, ABC News, San Francisco Chronicle, The Atlantic, The Telegraph, and Business Insider. Before Impact Interview, Lewis was Microsoft's Director of Product Management. Prior to Microsoft, he worked at Google, leading new AdWords product launches.

Lewis has also written two other bestsellers on interview preparation: Decode and Conquer as well as Rise Above the Noise. He is also the author of Five Minutes to a Higher Salary, a salary negotiation book.

Lewis holds a B.S. in computer science from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. He lives in Seattle.

No more digging through useless math on the web, this book saved me so many hours!

Math has been one of my strengths but somehow I would still manage to choke during interviews when the interviewer came out with a puzzler or a weird estimation question. This book does a great job at identifying categories of math interview questions, providing a methodical solution for each type and most importantly building up confidence to even face the most savvy interviewers.
I just wish I had this book before just like the other books from this author on product management and salary negotiation, I have spent so many hours finding half-baked sites on the net for the same things and never found anything this good

BUY THIS FOR YOUR CASE INTERVIEW!

Having read Lewis' other books "Decode and Conquer" and "Rise Above the Noise" this book is much different as it is more of a workbook than a coaching manual. It focuses on the dreaded case interview questions which are being used by a variety of consulting companies (McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.) as well as many top employers including Google, Amazon, Microsoft...

Great news is that just as his other books, he takes out the fluff and gets to the heart of the matter. Lewis begins by being very upfront of what to expect from the book and delivers on it in an efficient manner. As with his other book he has simple frameworks to help you organize your thoughts and break down a problem into the necessary pieces.

I interviewed with several consulting firms as an MBA student and found that his frameworks were spot on and you can essentially take what he gives you and make it your own. The practice problems in this book are great and essentially what you would find in a case interview and include a variety of topics (including a problem on Pillow Pets!)

It's hard for me to imagine a case interview question that this book would not aid you in answering. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is prepping for case interviews, it's a great tool and will let you focus on more important things and quickly and succinctly organize your thoughts.

Interview Tip: Half the case interview question is actually being able to explain your thought process to the interviewer and make it so they are able to follow you and your thought process (an essential skill when working as well) so be sure to not only practice solving the problems but organizing your thoughts and diagrams in a manner that you can show someone else. They should not wonder how you got from 1 step to the next.

Makes it easy

This book makes it easy to prepare for what used to be a stumbling block for me. Doing quant problems on the spot, quickly and accurately enough to impress, takes practice.

The book does a great job of laying out the frameworks straightforwardly and then follows up with plenty of sample questions and solutions. After reading a few, you'll find yourself already catching on to the patterns. Learning by example is definitely the easiest way to master this style of interview question.

Looking back over the last year, it would have helped me knock these questions out of the park:
1) Google: how much of storage will we need in 2015 for Gmail?
2) Yahoo: how many people visit Yahoo finance each day?
3) PayPal: how much should the company's travel budget be for next year?

You have to expect math at interviews these days, so be ready!

About the Author
Wayne A. Secord, Ph.D., was recently appointed by the University of Central Florida as the College of Health and Public Affairs Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Communicative Disorders. He is also currently the Director of the National Center for Speech-Language-Pathology in Schools (NCSLPs) in Cincinnati, OH. The NCSLPs is a joint project of the University of Cincinnati (UC) and Miami University (MU). It is supported by a Project of National Significance Grant from the US Department of Education. Dr. Secord served as the Coordinator of School Speech-Language Pathology at The Ohio State University (OSU) from 1989 to 1995 and Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Northern Arizona University (NAU) from 1995 to 2000. He is a Fellow of the Ohio Speech & Hearing Association (OSHA) and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and has received awards for outstanding service or clinical achievement from UC, OSU, OSHA, the ASHA Foundation, and the Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Western New York (SHAWNY). He has authored or co-authored numerous articles, books, tests and intervention programs on assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders, and served as the Editor of Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, a major ASHA journal, from 1992 to 1998. A former school speech-language pathologist, Dr. Secord is a frequent conference presenter and a nationally recognized expert on clinical and educational assessment and the delivery of school-based services for children with special needs.

I bought this book thinking it would have some "down to earth" recommendations and suggestions for correcting sounds. It ended up that there was too much narration of how sounds are produced, information that SLPs should already know.

Bought the book on a whim since it's been something that I've been interested in for a while. This is definitely an awesome introductory book that gives a thorough introduction both to typical herbs that one might find, their effects, and the traditional methods in which they were administered (teas, tinctures, etc.). There are also a handful of typical recipes for different conditions listed in the back of the book. Unfortunately, some of these recipes include herb ingredients that aren't listed in the book which is why I give this book 4 starts instead of 5. I'm sure there was a reason and this is an introduction book, but why list a herbal recipe in your book but leave half of the herbs in the recipe out of the book?

Still, this is a very good introductory book and the parts that were explained where explained very well.

Good book but not sufficiently edited/researched(at least for one herb)

It's a good reference and some interesting recipes. Deducted stars for the entry on Red Root which is known as Amaranthus Retroflexus in the book but it looks like the author is talking about Ceanothus Americanus. Amaranthus Retroflexus can be medicinal but doesn't support the spleen. At worst, it might be laxative. Not a fatal mistake but it's wrong nevertheless. Not acceptable in a 'herbal apothecary' book. To author and publisher: Please note correction and vet the rest of the book!
