Best in the business

This is the best of the best in photochemistry and photophysics textbooks. I borrowed and renewed this book for the whole period in my graduate school. In 04' I finally became an owner! It never fails me.

The author Prof. Turro is of little doubt the authority in today's photochemistry world. He was a familiar name in my PhD group since we covered the ground of photochemistry. His chemistry tree went back to Dr. Hammond, the giant of modern photochemistry and physical organic chemistry.

Dr. Turro is a great teacher. In 2001 (or 2002?) I was able to listen to one of his speeches in Florida. He has the great talent to deliver ideas to you, as often happens in great theoretical physicists. He delivers well in the book. It is very readable and informative.

He has great, great videos lecturing photochemistry. Use them together with this book. It will get you to quite a level in photochemistry.

This is the first book to read on organic photophysics. Turro is a wonderful teacher; the introductory chapters of this book clearly explain basic concepts that other books skip entirely. I would particularly recommend this book to anyone who is new to the field and/or timid about physical chemistry, although it is certainly appropriate for more advanced students/professionals as well. The advanced reader can skip the first few chapters and still find plenty of useful reference material on energy transfer, photochemical reactions, spectroscopy, etc. There are other photochemistry textbooks available but the price makes this one the best value.

The perfect guidebook to photochemical reactions

The author delivers an ultimate treatise in photochemistry with profound quantum chemical knowledge. Therefore, it may be a little difficult to understand if the readers don't have quantum chemical background.
However, the content is so well-arranged and adequately presented if you are ready for it, which means you need to have intermediate level of understanding in quantum chemistry and organic chemistry.

Mike Smart is the founder and CEO of The Smart Method. In Mike's long career as an IT consultant, Mike specified, designed and delivered IT solutions for large corporations all over the world. I also have the Essentials book and it is a GREAT book used in a class. I wanted the Expert version and was initially mislead by blank pages and returned for another copy. Pages are left blank on purpose. Amazon was quick to respond to send another copy but it was not necessary as they were also unaware of the intentional blank pages which the publisher confirmed.

Mike Smart has done it again! The best "teaching" Excel book/series on the market. You can't go wrong with this book. I was the office expert but I was humbled by my lack of skills. Start with his Essential book and move to the Expert. Even if you feel that you are an expert, it is worth the extra time to go through his first book. This is my go to reference when I am stuck with #null/iferror issues. Clear and logical , no tech speak.

I have ordered and read many Excel books and this book ranks tops as it teaches you and helps you learn by letting you practice what you learned. The short lessons serve as reference points for future use. This book is better than taking a live course because you get the more material than the easy examples taught in most seminars. This is a must for anyone who likes Excel and it matches any skill level. I learned so much in the first few lessons that I was tempted to go through the whole book and allow it to refresh my skills.

About the Author
The integration of psychological, social, and biological components of human sexuality in this text is facilitated by the authors' combined academic and professional backgrounds. Robert Crooks has a Ph.D. in psychology. His graduate training stressed clinical and physiological psychology, and he has considerable background in sociology. His involvement with teaching human sexuality classes at the university, college, and medical school levels spans over two decades. Bob and his wife, Sami Tucker, have been involved in the establishment and implementation of HIV/AIDS intervention programs in two areas of Kenya, one in the central region and one in a coastal area. Over the previous 12 years their work with these projects includes designing a research strategy for assessing behavior change, developing a peer educator-based educational strategy, and conducting training sessions for Kenyan peer educator staff. Over many years they have traveled to African frequently and devoted many months to the evolving Kenyan programs.

Karla Baur has a master's degree in social work; her advanced academic work stressed clinical training. She is a licensed clinical social worker in private practice, specializing in couples and sex therapy. Karla has provided clinical supervision, seminars, and lectures for other mental health therapists and professional groups. She has taught human sexuality and female sexuality classes at Portland Community College, Portland State University, and Clark College. At Oregon Health Sciences University she taught a human sexuality course and coached medical students in taking sexual histories with patients. Karla was also involved in a six-week program in Kenya to train HIV/AIDS Prevention Peer Educators. She has been certified as a sex educator, therapist, and sex therapy supervisor by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. She is currently developing a play about the nuances and complexities of male sexuality with her collaborator, composer/writer Fred Strong.

This book is awesome

I had to get this book for a Psych class and it's the only book I'm keeping at the end of the semester. It's a 12th edition and there have been a few changes since it was printed in the last year in the area of Atypical behavior most everything is current as it isn't that old. Great overview when dealing with the complexity of sexuality.

Heart wrenching Love stroy

I discovered Constance O'Banyon when I was 14 with the book Enchanted Ecstasy and I have been hooked since then. I wasn't much of a reader but with that first book that I picked up I have not stopped reading since. Lately, I have been bored with what has been available so I decided to pick up the tried and true Savage Autumn. This is the first book in a series of 4. I have read it about 10 times (or more) but each time I enjoy it even more.
This is the story about Joanna & Taggert James. They have been force to leave their home because of a ruthless uncle. Trying to get to their father they join a wagon train heading to Oregon. This is when the adventure begins. This is where Joanna meets for the first time Windhawk, the chief of the Blood Blackfoot tribe. You will be so amazed at what a large character he is. Tall dark and handsome. He is a fierce warrior and feared by many however his gentleness to Joanna is so endearing. Until Joanna leave him and he has to go after her. Windhawks fierceness then rears it's ugly head and you cannot help but tear up as he realizes what he has done.
This is a wonderful story and the begining of 3 more wonderful stories. Once you read this book you will want to read all of Constance O'Banyon's books. I have all of her books and treasure each one.

One of the best romance books you'll ever read!

Joanna and her brother Tag are characters you will not be able to forget, they have to deal with an uncle and aunt who want there money so they decide to run away on the trail there met Windhawk a cheif of his tribe and Joanna and he fall in love, this book is full of adventure and romance, there is action, heartbreak and evil chartures that you will not forget!

Classic 80's style romance-bad.

I read this author's work when I was in high school and the style has not improved with time.

So here's the story: The Beautiful golden/red-headed virginal heroine, who has absolutely no idea how amazingly gorgeous and captivating she is, and her young golden/re-headed younger brother are being bilked out of their inheritance by their wicked and lazy aunt and her old fat disgusting wicked husband (who is in lust with the completely clueless heroine). The two dastardly villains want to get rid of the brother (the heir to their deceased father's shipping business) by shipping him off and hopefully conveniently dying on route to where ever (I forget that part of the story). The golden/red-headed, oh-so beautiful beyond words heroine finds out, via a note slipped to her by her faithful nanny/housekeeper/family retainer/friend/surrogate mother, that her father isn't really dead and that he's alive and will be back to see them after he's finished with whatever he's doing (sorry, was skimming again and missed the finer details). The intrepid heroine gets the idea to escape and go out to meet her father before the bad guys can carry out their nefarious plans. Fast forward to the beginning of the Oregon Trail. The wagon train the sister and brother (plus entourage) are on just missed the main group and are now gearing up to go over by themselves. Right before they start their trip, there just happens to be a large festival (or whatever) of Black Feet indians, who are getting together for fun and games at the same place the wagon train is stopped. So while all this is happening, this white guy (I can't remember what his details are other than he's handsome and blonde) and two indian chiefs (one good guy, one bad guy) fall into lust/love with our AMAZINGLY gorgeously, beautiful, stunning heroine and her long lustrous mane of curling golden/red hair. The bad indian chief decides that it would be a good idea to slaughter the entire wagon train just to kidnap this paragon of beauty only to find out that during the raid she MAY have been killed when her wagon goes over a ravine. Instead of verifying how badly she's been hurt (which is what I would do if I went through all the trouble of killing all of those white folks to steal this one chick) he writes her off and leaves the scene of the crime with her brother and some left over captives that he and his band of merry men didn't get around to murdering.
Good Indian chief (who happens to also be super handsome and the best Chief that the Black Feet tribe has ever had) finds out about the attack and goes back to search for the stunningly gorgeous white woman, who he hasn't been able to get out of his mind, and try to save her. He finds her, waits until she's recovered from her wounds and then has sex with her and then blah blah blah, I couldn't get farther than that. (I apologize now if I got any of the story points wrong, I can't remember all the little details)

This was seriously HORRIBLE writing. I can't even go into all the crap that makes it so bad. Here are some that bugged me the most:

Heroine keeps saying her brother's name when she is talking with him. There's no need to say someone's name repeatedly in a conversation. Every one knows their own name, no need to wear it out. Plus it just sounds unnatural.

I can't stand the constant mention of her beauty and gorgeous mane of golden red hair. If these are the only two stand out points to recommend her than she's freaking worthless as a character and not worth the time or ink (real or digital) to print out.

The villains were so one dimensional it was DISGUSTING. It's just lazy writing to not flesh out character, to not provide even a remotely interesting motivation for these people's actions. Who are they, where do they come from, why are they so evil??? A good villain has depth and interesting motivations, maybe a past that can make the reader actually feel bad for the villain and cause us to feel conflicted. I want to see shades of grey not black and white.

Can any more people fall in LOVE or lust with the heroine??!! Holy crud, I'm amazed she even made it out of the front door of her house without being accosted by admiring men throwing themselves at her tiny dainty little feet!

I could go on but I won't. I know this book was written in the early 80's (remember those cheesy covers with the painted half naked models making out with each other, painted in pastel colors?) and the romance genre is not something that is taken seriously in the literary world (thank goodness for e-readers and digital books, now it's easier to hide my secret addiction) but there is no excuse for bad story telling. NONE. I like reading romance and I won't stop reading them but I lean more towards books like Dancing on Coals by Ellen O'connell or The Silver Devil by Teresa Denys (it's not for everyone but I love a good anti-hero), A Hearing Heart by Bonnie Dee, Bone Deep by Bonnie Dee, Sheltered by Charlotte Stein, Ridiculous by DL Carter, Starkissed by Lanette Curington and so on. I can read all kinds of styles and genres within romance but the main thing I'm looking for is a well-crafted story, which means it's immersive, believable where it needs to be, has flawed but sympathetic characters,has heart and a happily ever after ending (it is a romance after all).

Ok, that's it, I'm getting off my soap box now. If I could give this HALF of a star I would. If you're a 13 year old than this book will seem fresh (if still completely unbelievable) but for any one familiar with all the old tropes don't bother.
